A useful forecast still needs a valid supplier order
The raw requirement is a planning result. A case pack, minimum order quantity and minimum order value determine whether the supplier can accept the proposed purchase. Record these separately rather than hiding them in a manually inflated forecast.
Worked example: 46 becomes 48
Illustrative example: expected demand of 63 plus 12 safety units minus 29 available units leaves a requirement of 46. A supplier case pack of 12 rounds the quantity to 48. At US$10 a unit that is US$480, before any separate freight or tax considerations.
Minimum value is not the same as minimum quantity
If that supplier requires US$600 per order, the US$480 line may still be insufficient. Review the supplier group and any other valid requirements. Do not buy unnecessary stock merely to make a warning disappear.
Timing matters alongside the quantity
Lead time and ordering weekday affect when a decision needs action. Check arrival dates, existing inbound stock and the remaining cash limit before reviewing the final draft.
- Confirm case pack and MOQ for the supplier.
- Inspect any minimum order value at supplier level.
- Check lead time and expected arrival.
- Review the quantity and cost before exporting or ordering.
